John Huggins, together with his family, make a range of plant pots and garden ornaments from various types of clay, mostly terracotta. After 25 years making a wide range of handthrown terractotta with a team of skilled assistants he now concentrates on limited editions of more distinctive pots such as his Fern Pots, Landscape Pots, and Sphere Planters: contemporary pots made with traditional techniques. In some of his work he incorporates references to prehistoric elements such as fossils and rock formations; in other pots he enjoys the exuberance of energetic electric blues. In all his work he aims to create pots that are fresh, robust, and vibrant: you won't find pots like these in garden centres or supermarket warehouses.
Each fern pot or pebble incorporates the impression of an individual fresh fern frond. No two pots can be the same. Look out for the impression of the tiny seeds on many of the frondlets. Many choose these pots for their sculptural qualities and position them in their homes and garden as decorative and evocative pieces. They also look good planted with ferns or grasses.
