Nathan Eades & Liam Goff take the reins The Halfway at Kineton

24 January 2023 general

A traditional Cotswold pub has been given a new lease of life after it was taken over by two renowned Cotswolds chefs who have previously worked in Michelin starred kitchens. They are promising to deliver what they describe as ‘affordable luxury’ meaning the pair will focus on quality produce, served simply at a price point that will be reasonable.

The Halfway at Kineton near Broadway, a Donnington Brewery owned pub with three letting bedrooms and an extensive garden area, has been taken over by Nathan Eades and Liam Goff. They are aiming to restore the pub to its former glory and champion local suppliers and ingredients.

John Arkle, from Donnington Brewery said: ‘The Brewery are delighted to have secured both Nathan and Liam as the new tenants of the Halfway at Kineton. Their experience within the Cotswolds market is second to none. We cannot wait to see what they will do to the 17th century inn, The Halfway at Kineton.’

The pub will be reopening to the public on Friday 3rd February 2023 after a sympathetic renovation. The restaurant can cater for 40 covers, a bar area for walk-ins and a newly renovated snug with comfy furnishings ready to unwind with a good pint of Donnington Brewery ale. The pub also boasts 3 guest rooms above the charming dining room.

Nathan and Liam met at The Wedgewood Hotel & Spa in Vancouver, Canada, at the only Relais & Chateaux property in the city. Whilst Nathan came back to England to continue his career most notably as the Head Chef at Michelin starred Simpson’s in Birmingham; Liam rose to Chef de Cuisine at The Wedgewood Hotel. The pair joined forces again at Lady Bamford’s pub in Kingham, The Wild Rabbit, where they held 3AA rosettes and rose to 34th in the Top 50 Estrella gastropub awards.

The menu will be ultra-seasonal, changing daily. They will be tapping into the local supply chain as well as taking advantage of the plethora of game on their doorstep. Both chefs have described the food as ‘real food’ offering something for everyone who visits. Their mantra for the pub is simple ‘making sure our guests are looking forward to the next visit before leaving the building.’

To add to the food offering, the beers incorporate an extensive Donnington range, which have won awards across the UK. There will also be an dynamic wine list as well as cocktails which will change throughout the summer months as the garden gets a refurb which will include outdoor kitchen, new seating and covered areas as well as a kitchen garden for fresh vegetables and herbs that the chefs are looking forward to showcasing.
